Lord Trenchard is Senior Advisor, Japan at BOKA, with more than four decades of experience of Japan’s financial and industrial sectors. He spent eleven years in Tokyo with Kleinwort Benson as Chief Representative in Japan and General Manager of the Tokyo branch, later serving as President and then Deputy Chairman of Kleinwort Benson International. He subsequently held senior roles at Robert Fleming, Prudential Financial, and Mizuho International, and was Director-General of the European Fund and Asset Management Association. From 2018 to 2022 he was Senior Adviser to HM Government on Japanese Financial Services. A former Joint Chairman of the Japan Society, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, in 2014. He sat in the House of Lords from 1987 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2026, serving as Vice-Chairman of the British-Japanese Parliamentary Group. He is a Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire and Honorary Air Commodore of 600 (City of London) Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force. At BOKA, Lord Trenchard advises on the firm’s strategy and engagement in Japan, its relationships with Japanese institutional investors, industry and government, and the establishment of a durable BOKA presence in Japan.
