
Lieutenant General (Retired) Sir Ian Cave KCB

Lieutenant General Sir Ian Cave is a Senior Fellow at BOKA and a retired British Army officer who most recently served as the United Kingdom's Military Representative to NATO and the European Union from 2023 to 2026 in Brussels. Commissioned in 1987, he served nearly four decades including operations in Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He commanded 1st Battalion The Cheshire Regiment, overseeing its amalgamation into The Mercian Regiment, and was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service for service in Iraq. His senior appointments included Commander Initial Training Group, Chief CJ5 at HQ ISAF (Kabul), Director Training Army HQ, Deputy Chief of Staff (Plans) at NATO's Joint Force Command Naples and Chief of Staff Field Army. On promotion to Lieutenant General in 2021, he became Commander Home Command and Standing Joint Commander (UK). A graduate of the Advanced and Higher Command and Staff Courses, he holds a Cranfield Master's in Defence Administration and has completed the Said Business School MPLA programme.
